Imprinted Behavior of birds of prey

🦅IMPRINTED BEHAVIOUR

Almost all birds, wild or captive, are imprinted in something, this is not something that happens only with birds of prey. Due to this, Nick Fox prefers using the term “malimprint” to “indicate a bird that is not completely naturally imprinted”.

For those who don´t know yet, imprint is defined by Fox as: “a distinct genetically programmed learning mechanism in which there is a permanent attachment, during a specific sensitive period, of an innate behavior patter to specific objects which thereafter become important elicitors of that behavior pattern."

The author divides imprinting in raptors into five main parts, which overlap chronologically:

- Imprinting on parent - Imprinting on siblings - Development of fear response - Imprinting on future sexual partner - Imprinting on nest type, site and habitat

We continue to learn about imprinting tomorrow!📖🦅 Like and follow the page Diário de Falcoaria and follow our daily posts. See also on www.diariodefalcoaria.com
